Actor Sonakshi Sinha is all set to take flight in Bollywood in a few days and “comfortably numb” is how she describes her state-of-mind.
“My dad (Shatrughan Sinha) told me about the number of failures he had before he achieved stardom. And right now, it’s that one big moment for me. I have given it my best shot. In a way, I am comfortably numb,” says the pretty actor.

Though Sonakshi has already been lauded as ‘star material’, she’s still holding on to the dream that she first nurtured as a child — of being a stylist. “I have studied fashion designing and styling for three years. I don’t know how I’ll be able to fulfill that dream if I’m pursuing acting,” she wonders aloud. Clearly, it’s her first love.
Not many are aware that long back Sonakshi had designed the costumes for a Bollywood dud called Mera Dil Leke Dekho (2005). And the actor hopes to continue doing that on the side.
“I want to design and style my own clothes. I don’t know how many Bollywood actors do it, but here I am. I have done my own styling for a few shoots during the promotions, and I think they look good,” she smiles.
Sonakshi says she has also tried her hand in styling Salman in one of the songs of her forthcoming film. “Salman approved the look that I created for him in one of the songs. So, I think that I will continue styling along wtih acting,” she adds.
One more thing Sonakshi rues on embarking as an actor has to do with eating. Life is a lot tougher now when she’s asked to take small bites from her favourite brownie. “I had taken a lot of pains to knock off 30kg. Life is tough, but life is healthy,” she smiles widely.

Kim Sharma gearing up to marry her hot Spanish boyfriend Carlos Marin and moving to Madrid, did indeed make for a beautiful picture but that’s now history. In a shocking turn of events, the actress called off her engagement. And now, she has tied the knot with a wealthy business tycoon from Kenya, Ali Punjani.

The marriage ceremony was organised in Mombasa, Kenya, two weeks ago. A source says, “It’s a love marriage. The two were dating for a brief period. Kim felt that they should tie the knot quickly.”
Wonder if Carlos wants to comment on this. Earlier, Kim was in a relationship with cricketer Yuvraaj Singh for four years, which went down the drain somewhere in the middle of 2007.
“The marriage ceremony was attended by close friends and relatives of Kim and Ali. Kim looked very happy,” adds the source.
Bollywood weddings are indeed quite strange. Take the guest lists for instance. A few days ago, we reported on Konkona Sen Sharma’s marriage with Ranvir Shorey, where nobody but Koel Purie was invited from Bollywood. How odd is that? Come to think of it, apparently, Kim’s best friend Preeti Jhangiani (the two actresses had made their Bollywood debut together in YRF’s Mohabattein) was not present at Kim’s wedding. Preeti might have a word or two to share with Carlos. Despite repeated attempts Kim remained unavailbale for comment.

It’s hard to focus on the goingons on the sets of Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 3 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The sun shines on the Copacabana beach, right outside the hotel. Dino Morea has gotten up early to do his daily run on the beach, weaving through half-clad sun worshippers.

Priyanka Chopra, this season’s host, is no longer the girlie Bollywood diva in a frock. She’s wearing a black spandax catsuit, with black boots, her hair tied away from the face that means business. Chopra takes over Akshay Kumar as host of the daredevil show. Ironically, she was linked to the married actor at one time, making it no surprise that she hasn’t called him for tips. Not that he has offered his congratulations.
Put up on the highest floors of the Rio Othon Palace hotel, the crew has a birds-eye view of the Copacabana beach. Shooting for the show in two shifts, Priyanka’s surrounded by 13 hunks – ageing lothario Milind Soman, the poster boy of intellectual cinema Rahul Bose, funny man Cyrus Broach, a newly scrubbed up actor Shabbir Ahluwalia, TV heartthrob Karan Singh Grover, F1 racer Armaan Ebrahim, model Rahul Dev, squash player Ritwik Bhattacharya, Rock On director Abhishek Kapoor, lithe dancer Terence Lewis and yet-to-come-of-age actor Manjot Singh (of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!). Lest the contestants try romance to influence their host, mommie Chopra is around to keep an eye.
In the middle of this distraction starts the gruelling 6 am shoot at Bhering (where the Hollywood flick Incredible Hulk was shot) that continues till lunchtime. With enough adventure by way of stunts, the contestants choose Indian cuisine over Brazilian. Since the second schedule was starting only at 7 pm, the contestants lay down where ever they could.
If the contestants thought there was no place for a woman in this testosterone domain, they were put in place early on. Priyanka performed a helicopter stunt within stipulated time, which the contestants couldn’t do.
“The boys felt very bad,” she says smugly. “They were stunned and kept asking ‘How is this possible’? Their egos were hurt because I did the stunt easily. I was shocked myself that they couldn’t do it.
One would think they would start off small, but the first stunt involved all kinds of creepy crawlies. Locked in a rotating glass box filled with cockroaches, worms, the contestants had to unlock their way out. While the insects were not harmful per say, they clung to the contestant’s skin, leaving them scarred — emotionally and physically.
While all the men started out in sporting spirits, by the second day, there were cold vibes between Milind and Dino over the morning’s stunt. The youngest contestant, 18-year-old Manjot is the butt of everyone’s joke. His partner is a Brazilian called Andressa and everyone calls out to him “Have you undressed her?” This camaraderie is short-lived however, as the stints get riskier and competition gets tougher.
On their first day off, everyone took the opportunity to catch up on rest and then later hit the beaches. Rahul Bose headed to Leblon mall with his stylist to get more clothes for the shoot, while the rest of the boys did as Brazilians did — frolicked and swam on the beach. Priyanka quietly sneaked out at night to go visit the Christ Redeemer statue.
RAPID FIRE
HAVING SPENT so much time with the contestants, we put Priyanka through a rapid-fire round.
Best body?
All the boys have come completely trained and toned, but I think Manjot Sing has the best body (laughs).
Best Hairstyle?
Karan Singh Grover keeps experimenting – he has twists and braids, etc. Terence also experiments with his hair time and again. Rest of the boys are easy-going but Terence really spends time on his hair!
Best lips?
Itne kareeb jaake dekha nahi hai maine (laughs)
Best sense of humour?
(Long pause) Well, I am always taking their case, but I make Rahul (Bose) feel really bad that he has a very sad sense of humour. So now he makes an extra effort to crack me up. Of course Cyrus Broacha is hilarious. We are always laughing with him.
Most quiet?
Ritwik Bhattacharya. He does what he has to do and goes back.
Weird spirit of adventure?
Shabbir Ahluwalia. He’ll do anything.
Who would you like to be maroponed on a island with?
I think they would want to be with me! (laughs). I pick Milind Soman because he is a national level swimmer and will save us both. (laughs)

The India connect in the whole spot-fixing saga, has been found and apparently it is Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra. This bit of news started doing the rounds when a detailed report of phone calls between Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif and Neetu Chandra surfaced. The detailed report, claimed to be prepared by the Interpol and Scotland Yard for the Pakistan Cricket Board, apparently contains various phone numbers of people who interacted with Mohammad Asif in 2009, and in that report, the only mobile number from Mumbai, was of actress Neetu Chandra, insinuating that she could be involved in the matchfixing scandal.

Neetu’s publicist Dale Bhagwagar said, “Neetu’s name is being dragged in with baseless allegations that she made calls from her mobile to Mohammad Asif in 2009. Neetu feels it is a conspiracy to malign her image.” Speaking on behalf of the actress, Dale added that Neetu doesn’t even know who Asif is. “When I met her, after the news came out, she asked me who Mohammad Asif was? I told her about him being a Pakistani cricket player, and showed his photograph. She almost jumped from her chair, joking, ‘He’s too dark. He looks so kaala’. She has never seen or met this man.”
When asked about the allegations made by Asif’s ex-girlfriend Veena Malik about Asif cheating on her with some Indian actress, Dale defended his client by saying, “Who is Veena Malik? Some starlet wanting to grab her 15 minutes of fame. Did anyone even know her name before all this? Also, she has said she doesn’t know who that actress was, so why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that it was Neetu?”
Terming this whole episode as a figment of the media’s imagination, Dale said, “Neetu isn’t a cricket enthusiast. She doesn’t even know most of the cricketers in the Indian team, leave alone of other countries.”
What about a copy of phone records that some media channels possess claiming that Neetu made two phone calls and exchanged SMSes with the controversial cricketer, discussing sensitive cricket issues and deals? “Those records have not been verified. If someone claims to have a copy of such records, they need to be checked for their authenticity. We would definitely like some Indian agency to intervene and check the authenticity of a report like this. Also, cloning of SIM cards is popular these days,” stressed Dale.
Any chance of her meeting Mohammad Asif at any party or a social do? “This possibility cannot be ruled out. But many people stand beside an actress to get their pictures clicked. If Asif would have stood beside her in a picture, at some such do, she wouldn’t have even known,” he explained. If everything is so clear and Neetu has nothing to fear, then why isn’t she coming out in the open and addressing the media or talking to them, we asked. “She can’t come out to clarify each and every speculation about her in the media. Agar sab actors yeh karne lag gaye toh acting kaun karega?” Dale said.
Meanwhile websites and blogs in Pakistan are panning Neetu down with their comments. The Pakistani Spectator wrote,“Neetu is a high class underworld girl, having links with the Indian underworld and match fixing mafia” while PakRockerX termed her as being the, “Nexus between cricket, Bollywood and the underworld” in their blog.

Katrina Kaif sizzles in Item Number ‘Kiss De De’

Katrina Kaif plays a delectable item girl in Farah Khan’s “Tees Maar Khan” (TMK). Naturally, the USP of the film is the item song that Bollywood’s leading dance-director is picturising. In what can be described only as a master-stroke, she got Kat to render a version of the 1991 “Hum” song “Jhumma Chumma De De’ that was originally picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Kimi Katkar. And Bollywood is currently in a tizzy about it.

Katrina, who hasn’t seen the original, fails to understand the fuss. Very matter-of-factly she says, “I’m playing an item girl. And all the songs in the film have a variety of elements. One of the stanzas has this “Jhumma Chumma De De” bit and, God, I didn’t realise the magic of the song till we actually shot for it. The atmosphere was crackling with excitement; I had men jumping all around me with beer mugs in their hand.”
Despite her playing down the whole element, this song from TMK may go down to create a terrific buzz because Kat has never looked more desirable! Her exposed midriff that is the cynosure of all eyes has become the talking point in Bollywood. Of course, Kat paid a huge price for looking like the diva she is. Says she, “I haven’t worked harder on my body than I have for this song. When Farah told me that I had to expose my full stomach, provocatively, right down to the hip line, I knew that I had to have the best body in the business.”
But after TMK Kat says she intends to maintain her washboard abs. “I believe that the midriff is one of the most sensual parts of a woman’s anatomy but I will not expose my stomach for any of my films, at least not for a long time after TMK.” Farah is happy that she won Kat’s trust. Says she, “I’m glad Katrina has decided not to expose her belly-button for a long time to come. Guess this will also become the highlight of my film.”

Stop Calling my Husband Takla, Kalia:Mrs Kambli

Vinod Kambli’s famous bald pate is turning into a social embarrassment for his gorgeous wife, former model Andrea. On Sunday evening, Andrea, who had been summoned to the Bandra police station after a woman accused her of misbehaviour in a shopping mall, broke down as soon as the cops were done with the questioning. “Whenever I step out with my husband, people taunt us by calling him taklya, kalia. It is extremely upsetting,” sobbed the mother of a twomonth-old outside the police station.
Andrea had allegedly got into a catfight with a shopper in a Bandra mall. While it is not clear what triggered the duel, it ended up with the family spending 30 minutes at the police station and a visibly embarrassed Kambli trying to placate his seething wife and salvage the situation.
The complainant Shradhha Kumar of Kurla claimed in her NC that on Sunday at 7 pm, Kambli’s wife, who was carrying her baby in a pram, misbehaved with her in the mall elevator, with one of the pram wheels running over her feet. According to eyewitnesses, things got nasty when the two women got into a verbal duel, with Andrea accusing Kumar of trying to push her around and in the melee waking up the baby who immediately started wailing. It was only when the door of the cramped, noisy elevator opened that the warring women, wailing baby, and a mortified Kambli stepped out into some fresh air. Kumar immediately approached the cops with the Kamblis reaching the station soon after.
“I lose my cool when people pass rude comments about my husband,” claimed Andrea, adding, “Earlier, I used to fly off the handle far more frequently, now I try to restrain myself.” Even then, said Andrea, she often finds it difficult to sit through the humiliation when strangers pass unkind comments about her husband’s pate or complexion. She admitted tearfully, “I just can’t handle these jibes!”
This is not the first time Andrea has got into trouble for losing her cool in public. Last year too she received a stern warning after a physically-challenged woman lodged a non-cognisable offence, saying that Andrea and her maid had assaulted her.

Kambli, who was by his wife’s side throughout Sunday’s incident, right till the point she presented her side at the police station, tried to resolve the matter to the best of his abilities. “She did not get violent with her, but merely held her hand firmly,” he said, with his head in his hand, a picture of gloom. To Mirror he merely said, “I don’t want to be talked about in the media for something like this.”
Senior PI Prakash George of Bandra police station said, “We have registered an NC against Andrea Kambli. She was summoned here and issued a warning.”

Freida Pinto to work opposite Antonio Banderas

Freida Pinto has signed a Hollywood period film alongside Antonio Banderas, titled “Black Thirst”. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud of “Enemy At The Gates” fame, it narrates how America started targeting the Gulf as early as 1920 for oil.

The film has an international line up of stars comprising Tahar Rahim and Mark Strong, and is set to be shot in Tunisia. Freida and Antonio will get time to bond with each other. The director has called them in for a camp to acclimatize them with the country. Freida, who plays an Arabian princess, has been paired opposite Tahar but has a lot of scenes with Banderas.
Our source says, “Jean-Jacques’s film is based on Hans R Ruesch’s globally acclaimed work “South of the Heart: A Novel of Modern Arabia”. The story is set in 1929 when an affluent Arab prince falls in love with a princess but his marital bliss is short lived as tension and the duty to protect his country after oil is discovered in the Gulf befalls him.”
This is Freida’s sixth straight international film, after films like “Miral” and “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger”, which is directed by Woody Allen.
